Primary explosive is an explosive whose sensitivity is such that it requires similar handling such as mercury fulminate, lead azide and lead styphnate, and to other sensitive explosives such as percussion cap compositions. Primary explosives are generally very sensitive to heat as well as mechanical actions such as impact force, friction, or shock. Primary explosives must be handled with extreme care due to their sensitivity.
